By 2050, 5 billion people, half the world’s population, will be myopic. One billion will suffer from high myopia and are at risk of developing serious eye conditions such as retinal detachment which could lead to blindness. This year, let us draw attention to eye care issues so that everyone, everywhere has access to good eye health. Essilor Instruments Asia mobilized its teams and resources to raise awareness about the importance of vision care and provide expertise and latest generation solutions for vision screening.

9th October, Singapore
All Essilor Singapore employees were invited to get eye tests on Visiosmart, one of the most advanced screening device, and the WAM700+, the all-in-one instrument to fully assess the biology of the eye in just 90 seconds. Besides that, the staff were able to find educational booths and learn more about Lenses, BoP/2.5 NVG Innovations, and Myopia.

10th October, Singapore
With a total of 100+ eye tests and screenings performed, Essilor Instruments and other volunteers were actively involved to raise awareness on the importance of good vision. 80% of the population screened at Singapore Airlines showed a need for a better visual acuity. Our Visiosmart and WAM raised the interest of many patients asking which optical store could offer such a service at least for a follow-up.

11th October, China
Essilor launched series of public events on vision health in Shanghai, Danyang, Pingdingshan, Zhengzhou, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xiamen, Jinan, Beijing, Hongkong and Taiwan, etc. with the aim of promoting the World Sight Day and advocating the concept of vision health, regular eye examination and clear vision on the road.
Our independent developed high-tech equipment WAM700+ was set in the lobby of Maxdo Centre. WAM700+ is a seven-in-one vision health screening machine developed for eye examination. Apart from that, quizzes and games helped participants realize the importance of good vision for road safety.

13th October, Singapore
In link with the global campaign aimed at educating all road users that road safety starts with good vision, Essilor Instruments and Essilor Vision Fundation (EVF) took the first step by checking the vision of UPS Drivers.
In total, more than 40% of the drivers have never or have not checked their vision in the last 3 years. While, 1/4 were detected as glare sensitive and didn’t wear any sun protection while driving. 70% showed a need for a better visual acuity. This gives also a great perspective of potential growth, both for instruments and lenses.
In total, Instruments team organized eye tests and screened 350+ people among Essilor Singapore and China employees, Singapore Airlines staff and UPS Drivers during the week. By providing a wide and complete range of eyes exam and fitting products, new clinical protocol and a strong R&D partnership with Lens and Sun business, Essilor Instruments mission aimed to better screen, correct and protect people’s vision.
